When it was decided to give Elsie’s a revamp, replacing the toy box and high chairs was high on the list. Now we have invested proceeds from the cafe in a lovely set of toddler toys, in an area where the youngsters can be seated while a carer enjoys a coffee and cake. If they fancy staying for a meal, a children’s meal is free. We also tempt with healthy snacks, hot chocolate and marshmallows or waffles piled with fruit.
Over the school holidays, we have activities and are thrilled to welcome young visitors of all ages. Our drawing competitions have a great response – with meals as prizes! The standard is always high and it is hard to choose.
The nicest thing about the changes is the customer response. Some of those who live nearby are pleased to pop in – they say it breaks up the day if they’re home with babies or toddlers. With our two high chairs, we have also catered for small groups of parents and grandparents too.
There is seating outside for those wanting to use the swings and slides in the small park behind the park. Children also like seeing the fruit, vegetables and herbs growing in the veg’ patch alongside the cafe which our volunteers nurture.
Elsie’s @ Exeter Place welcomes anyone who needs to get out and enjoy some company and a meal and do let Jenny and our fantastic team know if you can think of any improvements – for our smallest guests to our most senior!
